Sooo, It's Been a Couple Years

Using DeviantArt as my main art social site feels like a lifetime ago. I've branched out to Twitter, Tumblr, and Patreon since then, and DA seems to have activity in newer fandoms I'm in now, so I'm giving using the account a test drive again.

I've Been a Busy Bee

I may not have been hanging out here on DA, but I sure haven't stopped making art! I have hundreds and hundreds of pieces that haven't been posted here yet, including some realism style paintings and other fun I'm pretty excited about. I feel like I've grown as an artist a lot since last time I was posting regularly on here. When I do start posting artwork again here, it's probably going to be in a flood.

Anybody I Know Still Hang Out Here?

At this point I may not even know your new screennames, but don't be afraid to say hi! To those who followed me for older fandoms like Escaflowne and Death Note, I'm sorry I'm not actively making fanworks for those anymore. If you unfollow, or have already ages ago, there's no hard feelings. =) Fandoms ebb and flow like the tides.

Current Fandoms!
:excited:
My current active fandoms that I make fanworks for are Supernatural, Detroit: Become Human, Resident Evil, and the occasional work for Marvel or Until Dawn. I've just discovered DBH and am cowriting an epic-length fanfic that happens post-game. The majority of my recent fanworks have been Supernatural-related, both fanart and fanfic.

Commissions
I have a queue of works to draw, but my art commissions ARE open. These are totally different prices and art skill levels than what I've offered on DA in the past, and all previous commission posts are replaced by the current one. It's here on Tumblr if you are curious! On that note, if you were a commission customer of mine here in the past, I know I dropped the ball on working with a couple of you, and I apologize heartily. Life flew off the handle right about then and I was having sort of a breakdown about my job. Note me if you were one of these commission folks, I want to make it right for ya!

Off-grid With Pets Again

I'm happy to say I'm back to living closer to how I like, off-grid with cats and dogs and the ability to have a garden. On the downside, I am currently jobless and trying to make an income from online art and writing alone, so I'm always broke. Between being broke and happy or working non-stop and barely affording food and rent, I feel like this is better. I'm actively working on my situation to improve my income and become fully self-sufficient again.

How's Your 2019 Going?

I hope everybody is doing well out there in DA-land! :hugs:

My last Journal Entry Was January 2016 :faint:

Cripes! I have to admit, since discovering Tumblr I have barely spent any time on DA. I don't think that's all there is to it, though. Most of my DA is tied to fandoms I'm no longer active in, such as Death Note (still love, but the "obsessive creative heaps of fanworks" phase was over a few years ago.) I don't wanna abandon DA, so I need to seek out some contact with people in my current fandoms (Supernatural, Resident Evil, Until Dawn, Marvel) instead.

So Much Has Happened :faint:

Last entry mentioned switching jobs. I've switched jobs again since that entry, AND been at the "new" job for almost a year. The year anniversary is in March. Holy crap. I also switched to a new apartment, got a raise/great performance review, AND am currently searching for a new different job to switch to. Commuting sucks, riding the bus sucks, and in general working 41 hours/week sucks. So yeah. ^^;

I Has Adobe CC Suite

Krita was my software of choice to paint in as of last journal entry. I have since gotten a subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite at a large discount, so I have full use of Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc. I use mostly Photoshop by FAR, and have been sketching/drawing/painting up a storm with it. I haven't posted much of that here because a lot of it is just sloppy WIP stuff. Work/commuting keeps me so busy I rarely have hours on end to draw anymore, and I've slipped into drawing shoulders-up pics for months, which is not great.

Still YouTubing
Last entry I mentioned my YouTube Channel, and how I was going to use it for Let's Plays. Turns out I'm pretty terrible at doing something while also commentating about it, and so far the only thing I've posted to my YouTube has been speed paint videos of some of my Krita and Photoshop work. Those are a lot of fun, though. Check 'em out if you like--you may recognize some of the art pieces featured there as ones in my gallery. =)

Medical/Dental Stuff
I have been to the doctor this last year more frequently than I ever have in my life before. Was down for a week with an ear infection in April, called in sick for agonizing pass-out-on-the-floor stomach cramps in October (TMI? Sorry. ^^; ), went to ER for dental emergency in January, and have been to the dentist twice in the past week to fix the dental emergency (which was a tooth infection/nerve pain kind of deal.) Currently on antibiotics and pain meds around the clock, and return to the dentist on the 9th to get a crown put on. Ugh. Hopefully I've used up all ailments my body can throw at me for now, and can spend 2017 feeling healthy. :faint:

Still No Pets

At this point, it's under 6 months until I move back to the small towns I grew up in, so it seems stupid to pay the $500 deposit to have a pet in my apartment here. Especially since I'm gone all day five days a week, and would barely ever see my pet. =( My boyfriend has two cats. I'm most likely going to wind up getting a little dog instead of a cat, eventually. I love dogs, too, so no problem there. :aww:

Hopes For 2017

Not resolutions, more like guidelines.

Changing jobs:
Yet again. Specifically, working from home or being self-employed.
Getting rid of debt:
Actually making headway on this one (thank goodness.)
Improving my skills:
I want to learn another language with my boyfriend. I'd like to brush up my web designer skills, too.
Get a Patreon going:
It's a little scary that this was a goal at the START of 2016 and I still haven't launched my Patreon page. =/ I made the page, just didn't launch it. I should just do it.

How's 2017 So Far?

I hope everybody is doing well out there in DA-land, and is hanging in there during this crazy political/economic climate. :hugs:

Sorry, I Meant "C*RE Membership" :|

Adding the star in there in text makes "Core" look like profanity. =/ Well, it IS a four-letter word, I guess. At any rate, hi DA! As you can see, my DA main page layout has changed somewhat with all of the subscription features disappearing. You know, I don't mind. Sometimes it's nice to go back to the minimal layout and good ol' Deviant green. Really the only things I usually miss are Journal skins, the use of thumbnails, and the ability to create polls. I can live without those.

Life is Rolling Right Along :phew:

I've settled into my new apartment, quit the job I was unhappy with last Journal entry, and gotten hired at a new job that I'm actually excited about. My first day was yesterday, and my new managers seem like really easygoing people. I've also been practicing digital drawing/painting with my tablet a lot, as you guys might have noticed with the Marvel fanart.

Krita Is Still Awesome

The more I use this program, the more I love it. I don't think I've ever used my Wacom tablet this much. I'm just getting into painted styles instead of regular lines, because the paintbrush brushes in this program look authentic. You can get Krita for free right here on their site: krita.org/download/krita-deskt…

Got a Webcam for Christmas!
:eager:
That means my YouTube Channel can now have some actual Let's Plays, vlogs and other stuff featuring me on-camera. I'm no expert with my recording software yet, but I look forward to messing around with it. My sister Couy-Chan has a YouTube Channel, too, so she's my go-to person for help with my camera and software. :giggle: She has started Let's Playing horror games recently, which is pretty fun to watch!

Got Lots of Other Awesome Christmas Gifts, Too :faint:
Really, every single gift was awesome. My brother got me Legion (preorder of the latest World of Warcraft expansion), so I have been playing a bit of WoW again.

Operation Acquire Kitten: Stage 2

(Stage 1 was finding a kitten to adopt. I have chosen one.) Stage 2, bringing the kitty home to live with me, is still waiting on having enough money to pay the pet deposit at my new apartment. Now that I'm employed again, paychecks should start rolling in soon and then I can use some of that to finally bring my kitten to live with me! :w00t: She's living with my parents right now, and she's gorgeous and sweet and once she holds still long enough to let you pet her, she has a great rumbling purr. I'm still trying to think of a name for her. She looks like a Siamese cat with pretty blue eyes. Right now I call her the nickname I thought of when she was tiny: P-kitty, short for "panda kitty" because of her coloring. I'm rambling. ^^; I already love her a lot, as you can tell.

Workity Work Work

Yesterday was my first day of my new job. I go back tomorrow. So far the job and coworkers are nice. The commuting thing is a little weird, as I have to ride the bus to get there (something I have only done alone twice in my life--counting yesterday.) Anyway, I'm just relieved I have a job again so I can pay my part of the rent when it comes around again next month. :phew:

Hopes For 2016

I did this last year, why not this year too? It's good to have goals. Here's how things are going:

Changing jobs:
 DONE! :w00t:
Getting rid of debt:
Get back to you on this one once I have income rolling in again...
Getting a cat:
I have the cat, I have the place, I need the money for the deposit to bring her home.
Get a Patreon going:
I need to pick a project to focus on long-term for this. Considering Graham and Denley or Chibi Zombie.

How's 2016 Treating You So Far?
Hope everybody is doing well out there in DA-land. :hugs:

I Just Realized I Haven't Submitted a Journal Since July :faint:

My last Journal entry started like this, too, so I've been pretty lazy about updates lately. Sorry! ^^; Between uprooting life and job to move and joining Tumblr, I have been spending my time doing other stuff I guess. I still love DA and my friends here, though, and it's so familiar after being here for a decade that I doubt I'll ever just up and leave. So, onward to updates!

I Have a Place Again

I hadn't really planned on moving further than Seattle, but as it turned out, the right apartment for my roomies and I was in Redmond. Redmond, home of Microsoft, land of many Starbucks and lots of very rich people. (I sure stand out in that regard! :giggle: ) Since my last entry, I have gotten a part-time job (which I want to quit and leave ASAP...more on that later), and it makes my schedule VERY hard to plan. It's tough to get online consistently to chat with anybody or anything, and it's frustrating because I feel really out of touch. Anyway. ^^;

Found Awesome New Software!

It's FREE awesome new software, too! The program is called Krita. I had never heard of it before I found it in a Google search. I was frustrated with my lack of any software that utilizes the pressure sensitivity of my Wacom tablet. I can't afford to buy Photoshop, and I just feel extremely clumsy using GIMP. So anyway, I found Krita, and it's just awesome! It has an impressive brush set with pencils, pens, paint and more. You can get it for free right here: krita.org/download/krita-deskt… It was funded with a Kickstarter, and used to be a paid program after the trial, but they switched to completely free now. It's very cool and I'm still getting the hang of using it. While painting with Krita, I have started to record my sessions and make speed painting videos, too. Which brings me to my next topic...

I Have a YouTube Channel Now
:wow:
It was made with Let's Plays in mind, but since I don't have a webcam for my desktop computer yet, I decided to post some of my speed painting videos on the same channel. So far I have four videos, and they're all speed paints. You can check my channel out here if you like: www.youtube.com/channel/UCp70E… My sister Couy-Chan has a channel, too, where she's actually posting full-on Let's Play videos of various games. You can check it out here: www.youtube.com/channel/UC7FOJ… (If you check out her videos for the game Foul Play, that's me and her both on camera together! If you ever wondered what I sound like... )

Loving YouTube This Year
I've really gotten into watching YouTube channels lately, too. My favorites are Let's Plays from YouTubers like Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, Ihascupquake, Cryaotic, Pewdiepie, and now Couyfish. =) The game I has watched being played themost is probably Until Dawn. I've seen Mark, Jack, Cupquake, Cry AND Pewds all play through that one, and I'm still not sick of it. I'm enjoying posting videos to my channel so far as well. It's always good to branch out and try new stuff, especially if it interests you.

Still Want to Bring Kitten Home :eager:

After considering several kittens, I have settled on one for sure. She's an adorable Siamese-looking kitty with blue eyes. As a tiny baby, with her black nose, black ears and black tail, she looked like a panda, so I called her P-kitty for "panda kitty." Well, not it's stuck and I'm not sure what to make her "official" name... ^^; Toying with calling her Panko (Japanese for "bread crumb", but the literal translation is "baby bread" or "bread child", which is cute.) I dunno, I feel like I should name her something significant. For me that usually means a book, video game, movie, etc character. Hmm...

The Job

I'm still in the market for the right job about half a year after leaving Wal-Mart and moving to a different town. I have several places asking me for interviews right now, in fact. In the meantime, I work at a restaurant as a line cook/dishwasher, and I have to say, I am not caring for restaurant work. The cooking, cleaning, etc are all totally fine by me. The work schedule, particularly when you can go home or go on lunch break, is completely inconsistent and unpredictable. They literally told me I have to stay even if my scheduled shift is over "until they release me." =| I also can't hear what people say at least fifty percent of the time while in the kitchen, and talking to your coworkers is necessary to work together to make different kinds of food. So I ask what they said three or four times in a row, and everybody gets frustrated. My shifts are too late in the day. The place is too far away to walk (40 minute walk away.) Last but not least, they don't give me enough hours to cover my rent and bills, even though I only pay a third of them due to having roommates. Nope. I'm leaving as soon as I have another job option.

Tumblr Side Blogs
I mentioned my Tumblr, threshie.tumblr.com/ , in my last entry. Since then I've made two side blogs, one for my art and one for my fanfiction. The art blog is called Pants of the Seater (spooner sentences for the win, har har har), and can be found here: pantsoftheseater.tumblr.com/ . The art blog, Threshasketch, is here: threshasketch.tumblr.com/ . If you're on Tumblr, feel free to send me a message and say hi! I'm still friendly over there, too. :giggle:

Christmas is Coming

Thanksgiving was awesome--great food and a huge family gathering are pretty much all I ask, besides not having to work that day. One of the few things I like about my current job is that they don't make you work on the holidays, so I had Thanksgiving off. :phew: I don't know how I'm going to afford to buy anyone gifts this year, but if I am for some reason still at this job through Christmas (I really hope not), at least I know they won't make me work that, either. I should draw some Christmas-themed artwork or something...

Hopes For 2015, Continued

Continuing the space what I hope to change this year. Here's how it's going:

Changing jobs:
I definitely did that, yeah. Looking at changing again, though!
Getting rid of debt:
Still working on this one. Got to get above "scraping for the bills" stage to ever fix the debt.
Getting a cat:
I have the cat, I have the place, I need the money for the deposit to bring her home.
Part-time instead of full-time:
I am currently part-time, so mission accomplished I guess.
Eating less sugar:
The hysterical laughter that was posted in this space last time is still applicable.
Drinking kombucha instead of energy drinks:
Can no longer afford energy drinks all the time, so I've been drinking lots of coffee. Kombucha is out, though; I wanted to switched to it for the probiotics, but I just cannot get into the habit of drinking it regularly. I'm happy with coffee, honestly.

How's Your Year Going?
How's everybody else doing? Any new fandoms or games you're into? 2015 sure has been a year of massive life changes for me, and they're still going on. Hang on for the ride, guys, 2016 will be here before we know it.

Hi, DA, I'm Still Here

I just realized how long it's been since my last update. Man does time fly! :faint: Especially when you are between jobs and apartments. More on that below.

The Threshie Has Landed

I've officially been living in Seattle for over a month now. :wow: It's hard to believe it's already been that long, and even longer since I upped and quit my job of three years, left my apartment of two years, and uprooted pretty much my entire life. So far I cannot say that I regret it, although I am missing my boyfriend an awful lot. We're now more of a long-distance relationship. Missing him is the only downside, though, so far. Everything else needed to change. Anyway, I've been on the job hunt since I got here, and so far I've had three interviews, two with the same place. I've had at least six or seven replies to my applications, but some of them were just to tell me that the position had been filled. A couple of others were for jobs over an hour's commute away, so I couldn't really go for them. I'm sure I'll find something good sooner or later. I applied to become a librarian the other day. :D

I'm Older! :la:

Yup--July 6th was my birthday. I'm another year older and, er, wiser? We'll go with that. ^^; Anyway, Washington State has been going through a heck of a heat-wave, so I spent most of said birthday trying not to sweat too much. I did get to visit with my niece, sister and brother, and my boyfriend was sweet enough to send me Steam money for the game I've been drooling over as a birthday present: Lego Jurassic World. Soooo cute. What I really am this year is older and more SPOILED--I got a heap of awesome presents, including a graphic novel about Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange, a neat wrist cuff watch, a new gaming computer (yes, seriously), Lego Jurassic World, A Deadpool T-shirt, Amazon gift cards (that went to buying cheesy B-movies), and the free time to go to my family's 4th of July BBQ gathering without worrying about scheduling it around work.

Marvel Unlimited

My birthday gift to myself was a year's subscription to Marvel Unlimited, the service where you can read tens of thousands of comic books streaming online anytime. OMG, it makes Marvel's comic book side accessible to me in a way it has never been before. I can read on my phone, tablet, or computer. I'm already getting into reading Daredevil, Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Hawkeye. As always, reading comics or manga lets me look at new art styles, which also gives me inspiration to draw more. =)

Kitten :eager:

Shortly after I moved, my parents' cat had kittens. Thus I can take one home with me, once I find someplace over here to be my new home. I originally had my eye on a big orange kitty with blue eyes, but he doesn't seem to like me much. He runs if I try to pet him. I'm considering taking his little brother, who is a lighter creamier orange with grey eyes, instead. All six of the kittens are super cute, and most of them are already spoken for, so it's not like whichever one I don't pick will not have a home. I think the little guy might be the one for me, though. Either way, I need to get a job and an apartment before I can take any kittens home with me. The kitties just turned eight weeks old today.

Ordered New Glasses :D

They look kind of like Clark Kent's. I kind of look like a female Clark Kent (blue eyes, fair skin, dark hair with a big curl in my bangs), so that isn't necessarily a bad thing. ^^; Anyway, I'm excited for those to show up. I'm using my glasses with last year's prescription still right now, so the new ones should let me see better.

Tumblr
Okay, so I should come clean and admit it--I've been spending a lot of time on Tumblr lately instead of DeviantArt. They are very different types of sites (Tumblr doesn't care much for comments or private messages, they like to reblog other people's work all over and the hits count toward the original like pictures in Groups here do.) I find that my current fandoms, Marvel and Resident Evil, are very active over there. I've always been a "why choose when you can have both?" type when it comes to things like game consoles and web sites, so while I love Tumblr, I'm not leaving DA anytime soon.

If you are on Tumblr, come visit me at threshie.tumblr.com ! :w00t: I can never have too many friends here or there. (Be advised, my Tumblr is absolutely overflowing with Marvel and Resident Evil fanworks. Especially Marvel fanworks I love that I'm reblogging. I do post my own work sometimes, but mostly I'm reblogging stuff I love. )

Steam

I got a new gaming tower PC thanks to my awesome brother (heck of a birthday present), and so Steam games run better than ever on there. :D If you want to friend me on Steam, my name is (of course) threshie on there.

Artpad #77 Is Nearly Done

Under 10 pages to go! I have a new sketchbook all ready to be turned into Artpad #78, and it's my favorite brand, so I'm excited about this. (#77 is a brand I've never tried before; I got it after my favorite brand was out for months on end.) I'm thinking some mushy romance pictures are in order to fill up those last pages.

Revisiting Old Fandoms?

I have this idea for a challenge similar to the OMPC, but instead of pairings you revisit and draw characters from old fandoms you used to be really into. Everybody who does fanworks has something like this, right? Some of my oldest fandoms are Gundam Wing, The Slayers, Fushigi Yuugi, and Final Fantasy 7. It would be interesting to go back and draw the cast in my current style, sine back when I was into those I was still learning to draw people at all. I may try it out as an experiment.

Hopes For 2015 Continuing...

Continuing the space what I hope to change this year. Here's how it's going:

Changing jobs:
CHECK. :boogie: At the moment, my job is to apply for other jobs.
Getting rid of debt:
My debt's getting pretty small. I just need a job that pays above paycheck-to-paycheck and it'll resolve itself within a year or two.
Getting a cat:
I have a cat to get, now I need a home to take the cat back to! :eager:
Part-time instead of full-time:
With now two potential roommates, my finances are more flexible. I'd still rather work full-time and be paid awesomely so my debt goes away, though.
Eating less sugar:
The hysterical laughter that was posted in this space last time is still applicable.
Drinking kombucha instead of energy drinks:
Nope, still love my energy drinks. I'm just trying to drink more coffee versus energy drinks instead of kombucha.

Off I Go, Then :huggle:
I hope everybody's doing well out there in DA Land. I haven't posted much art lately because my scanner is packed and in storage, and my new cell phone camera is pretty terrible, but expect new art sometime soon regardless. I'll upload terrible quality "scans" if I must!
